Four Years and Seven Months

Taken from my original 1000th post @ Hongfire:

Four years and seven months ago I joined a group of individuals who have come together to form a community, conceived in Liberty, and dedicated to the proposition that openness and cooperation leads to a richer life for all participants. Now we stand at a crossroads, testing whether our community, or any community, so conceived and so dedicated, can long endure. We have members come and go, pioneering members leave and not turn back, but for the remaining few, who have given part of their lives that the community might live. It is altogether fitting and proper that we should do this. But in a larger sense, those who are gone… have not truly gone, for they live on. In our hearts, in our minds, in our memories, they live on, far above our poor power to add or detract. The world will little note, nor long remember what we say here, but it can never forget what the pioneers did here. It is left to us, the remaining, to be dedicated here to the work they have started and left unfinished. It is fitting – that from these honored pioneers who have lit the torch – that we continue to keep the flame burning, that those who have gone before, have not gone in vain – that this community shall have a new birth of freedom – this community, of the people, by the people, for the people, shall not perish from the earth.

Liberté, égalité, fraternité.

1000 posts, Senior member Level up!

On a more serious note, my level up to senior member boils down to 1 thing: persistence. Bit by bit, little by little, one thing at a time, reputations and standings are built. I had an epiphany when I saw the date of my first admission (2004) and thought to myself  “Ah what a long journey it has been”. It’s amazing how far you can see back on hindsight.
